Formed in 1982, the Burlington Recreation Commission sponsors the following activities for the youth in the City of Burlington and surrounding area: T-ball, elementary softball, girls softball (high school and junior high), pee-wee, midget, Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball. They encompass over 500 participants each summer.

In 1991, the Board of Directors of the BRC were able to raise the funds necessary to build a beautiful city park on River Road in Burlington. The park has one softball field, one softball/baseball field, horseshoe court, sand volleyball court, playground equipment, modern bathrooms and picnic areas, including a large sheltered pavilion.  In addition, a community Splash Pad was built in the summer of 2019.

The maintenance and associated fees are raised by a dedicated group of volunteers -The Burlington Recreation Commission. The Commission is comprised of a group of volunteers who work to schedule the activities, maintain the park, raise the funds necessary to support and fund the activities, plus the funds necessary to maintain the park. The current Board members are Paula Bachmeier, Mike Ruden, Alyssa Casavant, Amy Schaefer, Dan Glasoe, and Shannon Hanson. They are always open to any suggestions, hints, etc. for new activities or fund raising ideas.

In 2002, the Rec Commission was presented with a $10,000.00 gift from Bucky and Linda Anderson to initiate a BRC Foundation. Linda's father, Milo Borstad, was a wonderful supporter of the organization and the Anderson family wanted to help promote the future security of the park and the Rec's activities, along with a gift of $10,000.00 from Lori Clay family, Mike Holub to continue this investment. The interest earned from funds deposited in the foundation in the future will be used to help develop and maintain the park. Anyone interested in contributing to the Foundation is encouraged to contact any board member.

In 2011, the park was completely destroyed by a devastating flood that covered a large portion of the community.  Huge donations came in from all over, the largest being $100,000 from the Burlington Economic Development and $10,000 from the Minnesota Twins and Justin Morneau.
